Paços de Ferreira has managed to assert itself in Portugal as Capital of Furniture. With the talent and ingenuity of its people, the city itself combines technological skills and human resources that allows to ensure its economic dynamism and competitiveness, not only nationally but also internationally.
The city began to invest in this area of the economy since ancient times, first regarding school furniture, with the main goal of launching in Portugal a new method of special education, based on the rethinking of school furniture. For that, it was necessary to replace what Albino de Matos considered inappropriate and "unhygienic" furniture by new models, whose priority would be exactly hygiene and fitness for pedagogical uses.
These were just the first steps to the transformation of Paços de Ferreira in Capital of Furniture. Thus, over the years, the furniture industry at Paços de Ferreira has undergone a transition from traditional to modern competitive activity, with a constant concern to innovate.
